Original oil painting on canvas, 30" x 30" x 1.5", 2022.
A dense gathering of palm trees fills the canvas. Slender trunks rise from deep shadow into a canopy of green and golden fronds, while bright undergrowth glows along the lower edge. Expressive brushstrokes give the leaves a lively rhythm and draw the eye deeper into the grove.
I came upon these palms at Lake Como and was struck by the unexpected sight of them in northern Italy. The Charming Palm Trees holds onto that moment of discovery, using contrasts of darkness and light to turn a cluster of trees into an immersive, impressionistic landscape.
