The Bethesda Steps

Original oil painting on linen, 36" x 36" x 1.5", 2025.

People gather, pause, and cross the broad stone steps near Bethesda Terrace in Central Park. Ornate railings frame the staircase, while a tree-lined path and bright green canopy draw the eye into the distance.

Inspired by one of Carolynne Fromme’s first days outside after the isolation of the pandemic, The Bethesda Steps captures the feeling of people returning to shared public space. The carefully painted architecture gives shape to a lively scene of movement, sunlight, and ordinary New York City life.
